Where to Donate Food on Martha's Vineyard

Look for the Island Food Pantry's purple donation boxes at local markets and houses of worship. You can donate any nutritious food that's not past-dated, but what the food pantry really needs is monetary donations to buy food for hungry Islanders.

How can we help our hungry neighbors on Martha's Vineyard?

To provide a holiday meal that an Island family can prepare at home, please see "How to Donate Thanksgiving Dinner on Martha's Vineyard."

Another way is to write a check to the Island Food Pantry, according to coordinator Armen Hanjian.

"We buy more food than we're given," Hanjian explained. But the pantry also welcomes any boxed or canned food donation "so long as it's nutritious and up to date," Hanjian said.

Checks can be made out and mailed to the Island Food Pantry at P.O. Box 1874, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.

Other ways to help, from the food pantry's website:

  • "Include The Island Food Pantry in your will; our Endowment Fund has been essential in order for us to meet our expenses.
  • Put current and unopened boxed and canned foods in the purple collection boxes found in houses of worship and food markets across the Island.
  • We have a good supply of volunteers this year; however, if you have a specific talent or gift you wish to offer or if you really want to be a part of this work for an on-going commitment, call the Island Food Pantry Coordinator, Armen Hanjian, at 508-696-8225."
