Cocaine, Heroin Dealers Seek Martha's Vineyard Markup

The recent arrest of a Revere man who was allegedly bringing cocaine to the Vineyard is a reminder that drug users here are willing to pay sharply higher prices for hard drugs brought over from the mainland.

The dollar value of street drugs depends on what street you're on.

If you live on Martha's Vineyard and have a drug habit, you can expect to pay a stiff markup for illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin, which have to be brought over from the mainland.

A man arrested after he got off the ferry in Vineyard Haven last week told police he paid $400 in Revere for 26.5 grams of cocaine Vineyard drug agents said would be worth $2,650 here, the Martha's Vineyard Times reported in "Drug task force arrests three in separate investigations."

A Tisbury man arrested in a February drug raid told police he traveled to Providence to buy heroin for $70 a gram, according to Detective Nicholas Curelli, who wrote in his report on the arrest that "heroin is regularly sold on Martha's Vineyard for $200 a gram."
