SHARKS BLAST SILVER KNIGHTS IN FIRST GAME OF CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks were able to crush the Nashua Silver Knights in the first game of the Futures League championship series. The Sharks were able to smash 12 hits for 11 runs in a game that was never really close.

Trevor Breton (WNEU) took the mound for the Sharks and pitched a gem of a game, allowing only 2 runs through 6 innings and picking up the win. 5 Nashua pitchers were necessary, but were not able to stem the flow of Sharks' crossing the plate. A Dylan Tice (IUP) sacrifice fly was able to get the Sharks on the board in the 1st inning. Both teams were able to get a run apiece in the 4th. Tice was able to draw a walk, which pushed across a run, which was followed by another walk to Nik Campero (UMASS). Ryan Sullivan (UCONN) and Jimmy Ricoy (UMASS Lowell) got the RBIs for Nashua in the bottom half of the inning.

In the 6th inning, Campero was able to get another RBI on a fielders' choice, which pushed the score to 4-2. Martha's Vineyard was able to break the game open in the 7th inning with 6 runs. RBIs from Tad Gold (Endicott), Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst), Tice, Nick Sanford (UMASS), and Donnie Cimino (Wesleyan) gave the Sharks a 10-2 lead that they would not relinquish. Another insurance run was put on in the 8th on a Siegel fielders' choice.

Kyle Brenner (Brandeis) closed out the 9th inning for the Sharks and the game ended 11-2 in favor of Martha's Vineyard. The Sharks just need one more win to be the 2013 champions of the Futures League. First pitched is scheduled for Thursday (8/15) at 7pm on the Vineyard.
