Yes, "it's good for the crops" — and that's more than just a platitude here: Martha's Vineyard is a farming community as well as a vacation spot.
But still, all this rain can be a bit discouraging, even inconvenient: Today's Musical Mondays concert at Featherstone is cancelled due to the forecast, which according to the National Weather Service predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms today.
A high rip current may also affect swimming at local beaches until this evening, and more rain is predicted tomorrow, with skies gradually clearing in time for the Fourth of July, the NWS advises.
So what shall we do with ourselves on Martha's Vineyard today?
- Mini-golf is a fun activity you can sandwich in between cloudbursts. Along with its miniputt course, Island Cove Adventures on State Road in Tisbury also has snacks and home-made ice cream.
- Shopping is always an option, especially when there are bargains to be found: On Lagoon Road in Vineyard Haven, Chicken Alley Thrift Shop's daily special is 50 percent off linens today. You can also pick up some board games for indoor entertainment.
