New Vineyard Inspired Clothing Brand Launches

Vineyard Prep is a new clothing brand that reflects the distinctively preppy yet comfortable and casual feel of Martha's Vineyard.

A new Martha’s Vineyard inspired clothing brand hit the market this week. “Vineyard Prep” is an apparel collection of cool and comfortable t-shirts and hoodies designed to embody a vintage and preppy style without pretention. It is a youthful brand offering bright, beachy and summery pieces that capture the warmth, radiance and recreation of a Vineyard summer.

Vineyard Prep is owned and operated by Todd Hanna, Erik Hanna and Ryan Hanna. The three brothers and Massachusetts residents have vacationed on the Vineyard since they were young and have long sought for a way to turn their affinity for the island into a business.

“For me, the Vineyard is more than just a destination,” said Todd Hanna. “It’s a feeling and attitude born from the island’s balance of natural beauty, fun activity, and relaxing atmosphere.” Said Hanna, “There’s just something very special about a place where two of the most popular activities are cannonballing off a low bridge and watching the sunset.”

Vineyard Prep looks to translate the island’s casual and carefree attitude into their clothing collection and is eyeing a piece of the clothing brand Hollister’s market share.

Hollister, a popular division of Abercrombie & Fitch, boasts a Southern Californian surfer style that has resonated with younger adults. Said Erik Hanna, “Hollister is a great brand with a great message, but it’s a California-focused message. We think there is a place in that market for a brand with a Vineyard-focus. How Hollister symbolizes Southern California, we want Vineyard Prep to symbolize the Vineyard and Coastal New England as a whole.”

Initially, sales will be driven through Vineyard Prep’s online. The Hanna Brothers are also planning several so-called “pop up stores” on island throughout the summer. “We plan to participate in several island events and make our clothing accessible so people can see it in person, feel its amazing quality and comfort, and hopefully buy it,” said Ryan Hanna. “Of course the dream is to have a brick and mortar store on island in the future,” added Ryan Hanna, “but for now we’ll rely on our great website and a little hustle to make sales.”

Vineyard Prep presently offers lightweight t-shirt and hoodies for men and women but plans to add more Vineyard inspired items and styles within the coming months. “We will have pieces for every season,” said Todd Hanna. “We’re not just designing clothing for the summer. We’re designing clothing that celebrates a summer state of mind everyday and everywhere.”
