Edgartown, MA (May, 2013)—The Martha’s Vineyard Food & Wine Festival is proud to announce that plans are well underway for the Fall 2013 Festival. This four-day gastronomical event will take place October 17 – 20, 2013.  This “Farm to Table” themed Festival is pleased to announce that celebrity Chef and Hobby-Farmer, Suvir Saran will be participating in this Island Grown Festival.   MVF&WF proudly supports Island Grown Schools. IGS comes under the Island Grown Initiative umbrella and is the Vineyard’s farm-to-school program which seeks to raise a new generation of Vineyarders who are connected to local farms and farmers, empowered to make healthy eating choices, informed about the food system, and engaged in growing food for themselves and their families.

The kick-off festivities begin on Thursday, October 17th with “Fresh off the Farm” a special farm to table tasting for year-round and seasonal residents at the Ag Hall, followed by exciting, one-of a kind seminars, food demonstrations with top chefs, culminating with an elegant Grand Tasting tented in beautiful Downtown Edgartown on Mayhew Lane.  Fine Wine Specialist, Dan Michaud from Ruby Wines, will take you on a whirlwind tour of Italian vineyards pairing the finest Italian wines with fresh oysters.  Sip and chat with a national favorite, Joe Carr of Joseph Carr Wineries and enjoy local aged cheese and wine with Edgartown’s Mark Venette, owner of Black Sheep and Lisa Kaplan of Domaine Select.  Food and wine enthusiasts will enjoy sipping fine wines from around the world and tasting extraordinary cuisine from top chefs from Martha’s Vineyard and beyond.

Boston magazine and The Vineyard Gazette are Festival media sponsors.  The Business Communities of Martha’s Vineyard are partnering up this year to help promote this signature Island event. Andy Husbands of Tremont 647, Boston, and Harbor View Hotel Executive Chef, Shaun Brian Sells are serving as the 2013 Presenting Chefs.  The event is most notable for its local harvests from both sea and Island farms.

“This event is a unique one,” says Christina Cook, President of the Edgartown Board of Trade.  This is not a “trade festival” this is a festival of heart and soul, around food, wine and more importantly, this Island.  This is as much a celebration of our business and local community and the exciting programs that exist here for families, such as Island Grown Schools” as it is a food and wine event.”

The Martha’s Vineyard Food and Wine Festival was created to enhance tourism on the Island and to support and promote Island initiatives through broad-based community involvement.
