OB Water Cleared for Drinking; Contaminated Well Closed

The boil-water order has been lifted in Oak Bluffs, where fecal bacteria were found in one of the town's five wells last week. Residents are advised to "flush" their water following these instructions.

From the Oak Bluffs Water District, June 26, 2013:

Customers of Oak Bluffs Water District were notified on June 24, 2013 of a problem with our drinking water from the Lagoon Pond Wellfield.

We were advised by MassDEP to begin repeat sampling and take the source of water off line.

We are pleased to report that the problem has been corrected and that it is no longer necessary to boil your water. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

The Lagoon Pond Wellfield is currently off line until further evaluation is completed. The District has also begun adding a low dose of chlorine to the distribution system as a preventive measure. In addition, bacteria sampling is being conducted to verify water quality.
