New in Edgartown: The Port Hunter

After years of the classic “wood shop” on 55 Main Street in Edgartown, a new restaurant has popped up and is here to stay. The Port Hunter, prodigious son (or daughter?) to Patrick and Ted Courtney, is now open for business with a soft opening this week that includes libations from their bar, as well as some of the best oysters on island.  

We stopped by the opening to chat with the Courtney brothers on this novel venture into the hospitality industry, and they were more than excited; the project has been long awaited and to see it come together is a dream come true for them. The Port Hunter is a space for anyone looking to enjoy the best of what the Vineyard has to offer: great service, fantastic food, and a space to relax.

The open space is a breath of fresh air in comparison to other tight fitting bars on MV. Decoration has been kept simple, with their tables crafted from dock boards originating from the island and finished by a furniture designer in Maine; the red brick walls are graced with recycled nautical flags; a shuffle board to the side creates a fun environment for those looking for some friendly competition; and their open kitchen lets you take an inside view into what goes into making your fresh meals.

• Wellfleet Oysters from Wellfleet, MA
• Northern Cross Oysters from Cheriton, VA

Soon, they’ll be serving up dinner for those on island next week and their chef, Kevin Spada, tells me he has a few ideas and tricks up his sleeve to lure in the Vineyarders. In the mean time, stop by and enjoy a dozen or more of your favorite bivalves!
