SHARKS WIN TO LOCK UP SPOT AT TOP OF DIVISION

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks were able to rally against the Seacoast Mavericks in order to ensure either a 1st or 2nd place finish in the Futures League. After giving up 2 early runs, Sharks starter Kyle Brenner (Brandeis) settled in, helped hold off a rally from the Mavericks, and got the win on the night.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Mavericks were able to get 2 runs off Clay Ardeesar (Georgia College) and Chris DelDebbio (Hartford) RBIs. Neither team was able to score again until the 4th inning. The Sharks loaded the bases with no outs before Donnie Cimino (Wesleyan) was hit by a pitch that forced home a run. Dylan Tice (IUP) and Nik Campero (UMASS) then scored when the Mavericks defense committed an error. Davidson Peguero (Fisher) then cleared the bases with his first home-run of the summer. RBIs from Tice and Campero gave the Sharks their final 2 runs of the game and the Sharks left the half inning up 8-2.

Seacoast was able to mount a rally throughout the final 5 innings, but were not able to overcome the lead the Sharks built. With the win, the Sharks ensured that they will retain either the first or second place for the playoffs. The Sharks return to action Tuesday (8/6) against the Nashua Silver Knights. This game will decide which team takes first place in the League!
