SHARKS USE STEADY PITCHING TO OVERCOME DIRT DAWGS

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks bounced back after an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 8-2. Sharks starter Kyle Brenner (Brandeis) got his 5th win of the summer, while Kyle Zaorski (IUP) took the loss on the night. Brenner gave up a quick run in the top of the 1st inning on a sacrifice fly to Todd Ezold (Umass Boston). Another Wachusett run came in the 3rd when Ezold took a walk with the bases loaded. This would be all the runs the Dirt Dawgs would be able to push across, but the Sharks were able to get on the board in the 4th.

A Brett Holmgren (Endicott) single scored Ryan Siegel (Mercyhurst) from third base, which cut the lead to 2-1 Wachusett. In the 6th inning, the Sharks broke the game wide open. The highlight of the inning was a Dylan Tice (IUP) grand-slam, his team-leading 3rd homer of the summer. Kevin Foley (Wheaton) and Nik Campero (UMASS) also drove in runs for the Sharks, with the eventual score being 8-2. Neither team was able to score anymore runs in the game and the game ended with the score the same. The Sharks remain in first place in the league by a 1/2 game over the Silver Knights. Ryan Siegel continues to lead the league in batting average, while Tice is now 5th in the league in runs driven in. Martha's Vineyard has a rare day off on Thursday (7/25) but return to action Friday (7/26) on the island.
