SHARKS UNABLE TO HOLD ON TO EARLY LEAD

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks took an early lead in the 2nd game of the doubleheader against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, but were unable to hold the lead and were defeated 9-8. Sharks starter Nick Salerno (WNEU) took the loss on the night, while Michael Marshall (Bryant) got the win for the Dirt Dawgs.

In the first inning, the Sharks were able to get 5 runs on the board. Nik Campero (UMASS) was able to rip a triple to the outfield fence that scored 2 Sharks, which was followed by RBIs from Donnie Cimino (Wesleyan), Chris Miller (Seton Hill), and Davidson Peguero (Fisher). The Sharks were able to hold this lead until the 4th inning, when the Dirt Dawgs rallied back.

Billy Wright (Judson), Derek Hirsch (St. Thomas Aquinas) , Austin Mock (IUP), Tim Corey (Colby), Kevin Marciano (WNEU), and Josh Raymond (Judson) all drove in runs for the Dirt Dawgs and the score leading into the bottom half of the inning was now 8-5. In the 6th inning, Wachusett was able to add an insurance run on a Nate Pajka (Bates) sacrifice fly. The Sharks were able to put on a rally in the final run of the shortened 7-inning game, with three runs, but were able to complete it and lost to the Dirt Dawgs.
