Vegan Sweet Shop Expands to Edgartown

It's all about the cacao at Not Your Sugar Mamas, the chocolate and confection company founded two years ago on the Vineyard by Bennett Coffey and Kyleen Keenan and newly open in Edgartown.

Coffey and Keenan say they use cacao in all their products because of its

• mood lifting properties
• ability to enhance energy and aid in weight loss
• natural aphrodisiac properties
• high level of antioxidants

Not Your Sugar Mamas treats are also made without refined sugars, gluten or dairy products and are virtually all vegan with the exception of some chocolate bars that contain honey, Keenan said.

Many of the cacao products are raw foods and Not Your Sugar Mamas is the only organic chocolate maker on the Cape and Islands, she added.

The treats are made in the kitchen at Not Your Sugar Mamas' first shop in Vineyard Haven, established last June and now open seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 79 Beach Road.

The new Edgartown shop, at 32 Winter Street next to Humphrey's Bakery, is currently open Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There you'll find not only the chocolate bars that launched Not Your Sugar Mamas, but a new line of baked goods including scones, cookies and cupcakes.

Not Your Sugar Mamas also sells smoothie mixes and prepared smoothies as well as drinks like hot chocolate made with hemp milk, cinnamon, vanilla and sea salt; chocolate soda with coconut milk; and Chilmark Coffee (dairy milk available for you to add yourself).
