Little House Cafe Takes Little April Break

The popular, casual American-Middle Eastern restaurant on State Road in Tisbury is closing after lunch today, to reopen April 22 at 7:30 a.m.

Little House Cafe in Tisbury is going on vacation, according to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page: "We are closing today at 2:30 and taking a little spring break! We'll be back at 7:30am on Monday the 22nd... see you then!" And it's fantastic. Their chicken salad sandwich (curry-flavored, on pita bread) is delicious, as is their pan seared cod with olive tapenade (dinner menu item). The housemade desserts, ginger cake and chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich, were a hit at our table as well. When you've got a big appetite, don't overlook this little house…

A year-long moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries passed in one Martha's Vineyard town meeting Tuesday, but failed in two others. A ban on public consumption of medical pot failed in one town and passed in two.

Medical marijuana patients may need to consult a map before they light up or eat their doctor-prescribed herbal medications on Martha's Vineyard. Town meeting votes in three Island municipalities have created a patchwork of regulations on where residents and visitors may legally consume prescription pot. Tuesday night, Edgartown voters passed a 12-month moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries, but not a proposed ban on smoking or otherwise ingesting prescribed marijuana in public places. This effectively means that patients with legitimate prescriptions may smoke pot anywhere tobacco smoking is allowed, but they won't be able to fill their prescriptions at a dispensary in Edgartown for at least a year. In Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven…

Martha's Vineyard Murder Trial Begins

Was it self-defense or murder? The trial of Ovando Eghill is set to begin in Edgartown today, according to the Cape Cod Times.

Nearly two years after Ovando Eghill was first accused of fatally stabbing his wife's ex-husband, Michael Trusty, his murder trial is set to begin today, according to the Cape Cod Times. As reported on Martha's Vineyard Patch, Eghill and Trusty began arguing on the evening of June 15, 2011, in front of a home in Vineyard Haven where a caregiver was watching both Eghill and Trusty’s children.
