"We want to tread as light as possible," says an associate producer of the ABC Family cable series "The Vineyard," which begins production this week. "We want to show off how awesome this island is; we're not trying to make it trashy."
It's the "anti-'Jersey Shore,'" says Jamie Reiff, associate producer of television's upcoming "The Vineyard." "We want to show off how awesome this island is," Reiff told Patch. "We're not trying to make it trashy." Reiff is one of more than 50 cast and crew members arriving on the Island this weekend to produce the debut season of a series they hope will be a hit on the ABC Family cable channel. "We want to tread as light as possible" on the Island during their seven-week stay, Reiff told MV Patch. Reiff describes "The Vineyard" as a "coming-of-age show about teenagers who come on the Island specifically to work there for the summer, blending with the people who live there year-round." The program has also been described as a "docu-soap…

An upcoming television series set on Martha's Vineyard needs several production assistants here in May and June. Are you organized, reliable and knowledgable about the Island? Here's updated contact information for the job.
Show business is calling, Martha's Vineyard. The production coordinator for the ABC Disney television series "The Vineyard," which starts filming here May 9, said Tuesday she is looking for several "good people" to work as production assistants through late June. TV or film production experience will give you a "huge" advantage, said Jamie Reiff. But even more important to the job is being "very organized and reliable," Reiff said, adding "knowledge of the Island is obviously very good." The "P.A." job is an entry-level position: "kind of a grunt job on the set," Reiff acknowledged. But assistants are vital to the production's success, she added: "They're so important." Tasks range from running errands and getting lunch to helping with …

Some Islanders are expressing their displeasure at news of a planned "coming-of-age docu-soap" set on Martha's Vineyard this summer. Read their sometimes scathing comments and add your own, pro or con.
It's the talk of the Island: Word that Disney/ABC has greenlighted a Martha's Vineyard reality TV show has spread quickly since ABC Family announced the program yesterday. We were warned: Back in 2009, the MV Times ran an article about the proposed "docu-soap," which was casting for 19- to 28-year-olds. Now that the program has been picked up by ABC Family, here's what readers said when we posted the news on Patch and on our Facebook page yesterday: On Patch (see Reality TV Show "The Vineyard" Announced) On Facebook According to TV By the Numbers, a press release from ABC Family reads: “The Vineyard,” a dramatic coming-of-age docu-soap, follows a handful of 20-somethings in Martha’s Vineyard for the summer. I think this is an opportunity to see the Vineyard portrayed for what it is... a family resort where young people flock every summer to work and play and generally cavort. Some of my fondest memories are from working at Martha's Restaurant in Edgartown back in the 70's. I hope my two daughters someday decide to work here for their summers through college.   more ›
