"Be a Star": TV Show Filming at Oak Bluffs Bar

Which TV show? Just guess — or show up Monday night, sign a release and find out.

They're not wasting time at the Sand Bar & Grill. Just opened for the season, the Oak Bluffs harborside nightspot has already hosted a "Mad Men" benefit for Martha's Vineyard Community Services and has more big plans for Monday, according to a Facebook update from the establishment: "On Monday evening, we will have an evening of filming at Sand Bar Martha's Vineyard. The TV show will remain unnamed for legal reasons. Come by, sign a release, and be a star!" While Sand Bar's not naming the show, Patch is guessing it's the one that's been making local headlines since we broke the story in February:  Sand Bar is located at 6 Circuit Ave. Extension on the harbor in Oak Bluffs: 508-693-7111. Would you like to be an (unpaid) extra on the show? …

Unless I'm mistaken, and I haven't found an earlier citation to prove me wrong, Patch was the first Martha's Vineyard media outlet to report on the ABC Family channel's decision to greenlight the show for production in 2013. Our story ran Feb. 14.   more ›

"The Vineyard" TV Production Team Arrives

"We want to tread as light as possible," says an associate producer of the ABC Family cable series "The Vineyard," which begins production this week. "We want to show off how awesome this island is; we're not trying to make it trashy."

It's the "anti-'Jersey Shore,'" says Jamie Reiff, associate producer of television's upcoming "The Vineyard." "We want to show off how awesome this island is," Reiff told Patch. "We're not trying to make it trashy." Reiff is one of more than 50 cast and crew members arriving on the Island this weekend to produce the debut season of a series they hope will be a hit on the ABC Family cable channel. "We want to tread as light as possible" on the Island during their seven-week stay, Reiff told MV Patch. Reiff describes "The Vineyard" as a "coming-of-age show about teenagers who come on the Island specifically to work there for the summer, blending with the people who live there year-round." The program has also been described as a "docu-soap…

I think this is an opportunity to see the Vineyard portrayed for what it is... a family resort where young people flock every summer to work and play and generally cavort. Some of my fondest memories are from working at Martha's Restaurant in Edgartown back in the 70's. I hope my two daughters someday decide to work here for their summers through college.   more ›

Hiring: "The Vineyard" Reality TV Show Seeks Production Assistants

An upcoming television series set on Martha's Vineyard needs several production assistants here in May and June. Are you organized, reliable and knowledgable about the Island? Here's updated contact information for the job.

Show business is calling, Martha's Vineyard. The production coordinator for the ABC Disney television series "The Vineyard," which starts filming here May 9, said Tuesday she is looking for several "good people" to work as production assistants through late June. TV or film production experience will give you a "huge" advantage, said Jamie Reiff. But even more important to the job is being "very organized and reliable," Reiff said, adding "knowledge of the Island is obviously very good." The "P.A." job is an entry-level position: "kind of a grunt job on the set," Reiff acknowledged. But assistants are vital to the production's success, she added: "They're so important." Tasks range from running errands and getting lunch to helping with …

"Vineyard" Reality TV Show Starts Production May 5, Source Says

The Black Dog Tavern and retail shop in Vineyard Haven will be the center of the action for reality TV show "The Vineyard" in May and June, according to an film and television industry insider with Island roots.

Production starts May 5 on the much-discussed reality TV show "The Vineyard," says a longtime Los Angeles television and film industry insider who has spent many summers on Martha's Vineyard. Texting late Wednesday night, the retired Hollywood producer and editor wrote that the show is "shooting from May 5-June 25 in Vineyard Haven ... Story is based around The Black Dog store and restaurant." (See screen shot of message.) News that the ABC Family channel had greenlighted a Martha's Vineyard-based reality show caused a storm of comment on MV Patch and social media last month, with one commenter calling it "the worst idea ever." According to ABC Family, The Vineyard premieres Wednesday, July 24 at 9/8c! This docu-soap follows a handful of …

Reality shows equal trash in my opinion...and we don't need that here. Not very "Vineyard" and will not have any long term positive effects on the island economy. And May-June? That's, thankfully, not the heart of the Vineyard summer. It will be more like The Hills? Klassy...   more ›

I interviewed the production coordinator for nearly an hour this week, for an upcoming article. She told me they want to showcase the best aspects of the Island - more like "The Hills" than "Jersey Shore," she said. They're also hiring locally: http://marthasvineyard.patch.com/articles/hiring-the-vineyard-reality-tv-show-seeks-production-assistants   more ›
