Music Teacher Grammy Nominations Close Today

Today is the deadline to nominate your favorite music teacher for a newly-established Grammy award honoring music educators. What Martha's Vineyard music teachers do you think are worthy of this award? Tell us in the comments.

The April 15 deadline is upon us for a new Grammy award honoring music educators. The new award will be presented for the first time during next year's awards ceremony. The Music Educator Award was created "to recognize music educators for their contributions to our musical landscape and their positive influence on their students' musical experiences," according to a press release from the Grammy Foundation, which continues: What Martha's Vineyard music teachers deserve to be nominated for this award? Tisbury Teacher Michael Ovios Has Passed Away

The Tisbury School art teacher died this morning following a brief illness.

Tisbury School art teacher Michael Ovios passed away on March 31 after a brief illness. Ovios taught at the school for more than 35 years. He was 65. Ovios died at Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston, where he had been seeking treatment for several weeks prior to his death. Ovios taught industrial arts to fifth through eight grade students, and art to kindergarten through third grade students. He frequently assisted with light and set design on theater productions. At a recent Tisbury School performance of "Bye Bye Birdie," faculty members voiced their sadness that Ovios could not be with them due to an ongoing illness. A memorial service for Ovios will be held at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, in Oak Bluffs, on April 8 from…

A huge presence in the Tisbury School and a true lover of his craft. He has touched many hearts throughout the year with all of his "kids" in the school. He will be missed but always thought of with a smile when we see reminders of him in our home and in our children's works.
