Faith's Seafood Shack Reopens in Aquinnah

Lobster rolls and hot dogs are now available at the Aquinnah cliffs, with the famous tuna salad, meatball sub and clear-broth chowder coming over the next few days, says co-owner James Shephard,

Hungry for a meal with a view from the Aquinnah cliffs? Faith's Seafood Shack is back for 2013. "It's a soft opening — the weather's so beautiful," James Shephard said Sunday, as he served customers at the take-out window.  Shephard, who co-owns the cliffside eatery with Faith Vanderhoop, took several snapshots of his first-day customers to post on Facebook. During vacation week and weather permitting, Faith's is open daily from 11 a.m. through sunset, said Shephard, adding that the menu will be expanding as days go by. Hot dogs and lobster rolls are available now, tuna salad and meatball subs are coming in the next days and the eatery's signature dish should be available by the end of the week, Shephard said: "We're famous for our clear-…

Edgartown Seafood, Soigne Reopen

Two of Edgartown's longtime food businesses are back from their late-winter breaks and ready to serve.

After a two-month break to clean and refresh, Edgartown Seafood Market is open again at the convergence of Cook and Main streets. The fish market is currently open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Also open again in the same neighborhood: Soigne, the gourmet grocery, wine and carry-out shop at 190 Upper Main St., which returned from winter break April 6. So this Monday, technically my first as editor here (I actually started over the weekend because of the storm), I thought I'd give it a try on the MV Patch Facebook page. Here's what I asked: "It's Lundi Gras, the day before Mardi Gras and so Lent begins Wednesday. Where are the best places on the Island to get fish on Friday? Eat-in, carry-out or raw to cook, please let me know your favorites for a story on MV Patch. Thanks! Louisa" Here's what you said: (Note: The Bite, Larsen's and Seafood Shanty are closed for the season; …

Raking in a Good Dinner: Clamming in Katama Bay

Anyone can do it—you just need the proper equipment, a point in the right direction and a license.

Anyone can vacation on the Island and enjoy their fair share of local seafood at restaurants or seafood markets. But why leave all the fun to the professionals? Remembering how savory the dinner was last year with our haul, we prepared for a day of clamming in Katama Bay. We came to the island prepared for this expedition. Clam rakes: Check. Nail Aprons: Check. Shellfish ring: Check. Clam basket: Check. Appetite: Check! We left the most important element we left to the last minute: the clamming license. Without this $50 piece of paper, obtained at the Edgartown Town Hall—or whichever town hall governs the body …
