Home Sales for the Love of Rescued Animals

A Weston real estate pair fell in love with a badly injured pit bull mix, and they're selling homes to support the organization that saved her.

  Three years ago Weston real estate agent Leslie Mann read a story on the Internet that horrified her. What she read was the story of Turtle, a female pit bull-type dog who had been abandonned in a wooded area of Hyde Park in the middle of winter. She was badly injured and barely clinging to life -- showing all the signs of a bait dog, one used to test the fighting instinct of a potential fight dog. The Animal Rescue League of Boston stepped in to help Turtle -- she was found near Turtle Pond Parkway -- nursing her back to health through six months of treatment at Tufts Veterinary Hospital in Walpole. "I was just horrified by [the story] and said, 'We have to do something for her,'" Mann said. At the time, she held a Spin class fundraiser…

Sold: 1890s Edgartown Home, $2.9 Million

Four bedrooms, three and a half bedrooms and 120 or so years of history changed hands last week on South Water Street, for more than a million less than the asking price.

A classic Edgartown home from the 19th century changed hands April 26, according to Dukes County land records. 101 South Water Street was sold for $2.9 million. According to Zillow, that's down from its asking price of $3.975 million, after nearly three and a half years on the market. The home, built in the 1890s, was listed with four bedrooms and three and a half bedrooms in 2,550 square feet of living space on a lot just shy of 52,000 square feet. The property transfer was from the Stanley Washburn Jr. Family Partnership to Michael and Bernardine Caruso of the Claudio Trust, which gives its address as that of an Edgartown law firm, land records state. The home is located near the intersection with High Street and not far from Dunham Road…

Fisher to a man and woman from Wayne, PA on April 17 for $1,675,000, according to Dukes County land records. If recent neighborhood history is any guide, buyers Kathleen Mickelonis and Jeffrey D. Moore may soon be joining the ranks of northside homeowners undertaking extensive renovations and building additions.
