Keating: NStar Needs to do a Better Job [VIDEO]

Congressman Bill Keating says NStar needs to do a better job when it comes to providing customers with restoration times.

On the Cape, Congressman Keating toured the shelter at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School Monday with Governor Deval Patrick and other Cape lawmakers. During a press briefing after the tour, Keating said it’s vital for customers to know when their power will be restored. “The frustration, which I share about NStar, is the level of public information that they are sharing with the public. People worried if their pipes are freezing would like to know if the service is estimated two or three days. That would help make a decision for them about sealing off the water,” Keating said. At our family home in Falmouth, there has been no electricity since the storm Half the street has no power. A tree came down and broke both the 440V and the 220V lines, which sparked and flamed on the ground for two days until crews came to pull the fuses and remove the tree. In Edgartown, our house and Mom's were without power from at least 3:40 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. - the lights and heat jus came back on a few minutes ago as we were kindling a fire in the wood stove. Where can we get some more firewood?   more ›

NSTAR Crews Responding to Early Damage and Power Outages

Company Urges Caution for Downed Lines and Stresses Generator Safety.

The following is a press release sent by NSTAR at 2:30 p.m.:  As Hurricane Sandy began to impact Massachusetts late this morning, NSTAR crews and contractors began their response to outages across the region. The company is bracingfor significant damage and power outages as the storm moves across the area. In advance of the storm’s arrival, the company opened its emergency operations center this morning and staffed its regional work centers across the state. Approximately 1,200 contract personnel from as far away as Texas and the Midwest are assisting NSTAR’s 3,000 employees in their efforts. These crews are already hard at work and will remain at the ready as the storm progresses. NSTAR’s call center is fully staffed and ready to field …

I live along Seaview Avenue,o.b.... The power held all day and I left just before dark. The wires used to sizzle ( it was a little noisy to notice, actually) and the transformer would blow up.....WOW NSTAR and thank you for such wonderful improvements,,,! Will return at sunrise....   more ›
