Vineyard Confidential

The House Lady Gaga Didn't Buy

In 2011, rumors were swirling that the pop diva was planning to buy on Chappaquiddick. A Vineyard Confidential classic.

The original version of this post was published on MV Patch May 2, 2011 as "Lady Gaga's New Funhouse." Read Holly's new serial novel, "Lady Slipper Farm and the Summer People," on Patch. We're publishing a classic "Vineyard Confidential" column each Saturday. When we last left our heroine Lady Gaga, she had confided backstage to an Island-based photographer that she was searching for property on Martha's Vineyard. She hoped to have him and his wife over for a glass of wine, she said. I made the calculated but incorrect guess that Gaga would target the Up-Island area where privacy is maximal. But soon rumors flew fast and furious that the pop diva had settled on a plot of land overlooking Cape Pogue on the northern shore of Chappaquiddick, …

Vineyard Confidential

Lady Gaga Fueled Vineyard Rumor Mill

A look back at the Vineyard's biggest celebrity scare of 2011, in this Vineyard Confidential classic column.

The original version of the post was published on MV Patch Feb. 16, 2011. Read Holly's new serial novel, "Lady Slipper Farm and the Summer People," on Patch. We're publishing a classic "Vineyard Confidential" column each Saturday. Word on the street—or maybe on this largely rural island you have to say "word on the dirt road"—is that pop superstar Lady Gaga is house-hunting here. We even have an idea of where the little cabin in the woods will be located. (The “little”, “cabin” and even “woods” part are, of course, facetious.) If she does sign her name to a deed—and realistically some power-of-attorney attorney will be signing his name to a corporation called, taking a wild guess, Haute Cholesterol Couteur—then we’ll have the biggest …

No Gaga for Chappy

Lights go out on the rumors of the Fame Monster's new digs

It turns out that all those rumors about Lady Gaga building a house on Chappaquiddick were exactly that. Just rumors. For nearly a year there have those who swear that the new mansion that has begun to spread across the property of 21 North Neck Road on Chappy was, in fact, to be Stefani “Gaga” Germanotta’s new home. There have even been purported Gaga sightings in Oak Bluffs and Menemsha, but now the final word is in and Lady Gaga is not, at least not now, going to be anyone’s neighbor. According to Forbes Magazine, “After attaining the property’s address, a review of Edgartown property records revealed that a Mr. Nicholas Burgin, not Stefani Germanotta, is the legal owner of the property, having purchased it for $4.08 million from Martin…
