Vineyard wins the Island Cup 27-26 in last seconds of a tight game
In the last 20 seconds of Saturday's Island Cup game between the Nantucket Whalers and Martha's Vineyard, the Vineyarders pulled out a win in what was a mostly Whaler dominated game. The game went into the fourth quarter with Nantucket leading 26-14. Then, with four minutes to go in the game, quarterback Alec Tattersall threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Watkins and the Vineyarders trailed 26-21. The final touchdown was scored by Joe Turney with 20 seconds left on the clock, bringing the final score to 27-26. Martha's Vineyard has won the Island Cup every year since 2002. Update: The Vineyard came from behind in a last minute touchdown this afternoon and beat Nantucket 27 to 26. The Island Cup remains on the Vineyard for another year. This Saturday, Nov. 17, one of the Island’s oldest traditions takes place: The Island Cup. The annual Martha’s Vineyard-Nantucket football game will be played this year at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s Dan McCarthy Field in front of over 3,000 fans.
