This weekend offers a feast — and some tough choices — for film fans, as the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival returns to Chilmark and a series of Irish movies screens at the MV Film Center in Vineyard Haven.
If you're a fan of new and independent cinema, this weekend could pose some hard choices. Not only is the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival returning to the Chilmark Community Center Friday through Sunday, but the Martha's Vineyard Film Center in Vineyard Haven is holding an "Irish Film Weekend" with shorts and features. The 2013 Martha's Vineyard Film Festival kicks off March 15 at the Chilmark Community Center, with a special preview event March 8 at the Capawock in Vineyard Haven. Here's the full schedule for the festival weekend.
Tickets to the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival are $7 members / $15 general public. Couch seating is an additional $5. Weekend Passes are $150 for General seating and $250 for Couch Seating. Passes are only available to members. Memberships can be bought online or at the door. Advance tickets and MVFF memberships can be purchased at www.tmvff.org, or by calling the MVFF Box Office at (508) 645-9599. The MVFF Box Office at the Chilmark Community Center opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 15th and will be open during all screenings throughout the weekend. For the second year, the Harbor View Hotel & Resort in Edgartown will be partnering with the festival and offering special hotel and film festival package discounts. A MVFF Free Membership …

Friday, the Martha's Vineyard Film Festival (MVFF) announced its 2013 of films and guests for the 13th annual event March 15, 16 and 17 at the Chilmark Community Center. Passes are currently on sale on the Festival website. Today is the final day of the MVFF. It will feature another full day of important films and a close out celebration this evening
Day two of MVFF was full of dance and clown proved by PINA and THE FAIRY, gasps and disbelief brought on by THE IMPOSTER, and one of the best Q & A's at this year's fest when Colonel Bob Helvey and Jamila Raqib took the mic to facilitate discussion after a screening of their ground breaking film HOW TO START A REVOLUTION Not to mention a little late night burlesque courtesy of CRAZY HORSE! Day two of MVFF started with an early morning bird walk with LOST BIRD PROJECT subject Todd mcgrain, ornithologist Vern Laux, producer Andy Stern and cinematographer Scott Anger. We visited Todd’s sculpture of the Heath Hen along the West Tisbury bike path, and then headed up to the CCC for coffee, conversation, and a screening of their film to another packed house and a standing ovation! Thanks to everyone who turned out to see this beautiful film, and to the panel for their insight and creativity…. It was a perfect Saturday morning! Then, it was on to PINA, the Wim Wenders documentary about the legendary choreographer Pina Bausch. Another sold out show for MVFF!
