Find vegan, gluten-free and non-dairy treats, organic chocolate, cupcakes, scones, smoothies and more at the new Not Your Sugar Mamas shop on Winter Street next to Humphrey's.
It's all about the cacao at Not Your Sugar Mamas, the chocolate and confection company founded two years ago on the Vineyard by Bennett Coffey and Kyleen Keenan and newly open in Edgartown. Coffey and Keenan say they use cacao in all their products because of its Not Your Sugar Mamas treats are also made without refined sugars, gluten or dairy products and are virtually all vegan with the exception of some chocolate bars that contain honey, Keenan said. Many of the cacao products are raw foods and Not Your Sugar Mamas is the only organic chocolate maker on the Cape and Islands, she added. The treats are made in the kitchen at Not Your Sugar Mamas' first shop in Vineyard Haven, established last June and now open seven days a week from 8:30 …

What off-season? Chilmark Chocolates is open through Feb. 17 and Menemsha Fish Market is selling and serving seafood daily.
Fish for Tuesday You've got to hand it to Stanley Larsen. Even in the depths of a Martha's Vineyard winter, he's kept the doors open at Menemsha Fish Market (formerly Poole's), selling seafood and a surprisingly diverse menu of carry-out meals. At lunchtime Tuesday, people lined up for fish sandwiches — freshly steamed, your choice from the day's catch of salmon, cod or whatever's freshest, served on a bun— lobster quesadillas and the market's signature hot lobster rolls. Ask for it by name Linda Thompson of Chilmark drove to the fish market for a delicacy that isn't on the fish market's menu. Thompson calls it "Half and Half," a straightforward name for her preferred 50-50 mixture of Larsen's clam chowder and his lobster bisque. Combining…

Chocolate is a staple of Valentine's Day, and for good reason. It's a sinfully sweet treat, of course, but it also contains flavonoids, a type of antioxidant that has been shown to have health benefits for the very target of Cupid's arrow—the heart. But not all chocolate products are created equal: they can vary wildly in flavonoid content, fat and calories, and quality of ingredients. So how can you be sure you're expressing your love with the most healthful chocolate option? According to dietitian Gloria Tsang, many products you might find in the chocolates section of your grocery store or gift shop have much more sugar and fat than real chocolate. "It's always a good idea to stick to real chocolate rather than candies and bars with …
