A family of four in Massachusetts needs to earn nearly $74,000 to make ends meet without public or private assistance, according to a study released Thursday by the Crittenton Women's Union. In Dukes County, that number is even higher—$74,220. This amount includes housing, utilities, food, transportation, healthcare and personal needs for two adults living with two children, one a preschooler and one of school age. According to the Boston Globe, the gap between earnings and cost of living is increasing because of increased costs, no raises at work and a higher required level of education. A spokesperson for Boch Enterprises revealed that Ernie Boch Jr. is interested in buying the Boston Globe from The Times Co.
Edgartown summer resident Ernie Boch Jr., owner of Norwood-based Boch Enterprises, is considering the purchase of The Boston Globe, the Boston Business Journal reports. "Ernie is teaming up with Bruce Mittman, president and CEO of Mittcom (the Newton marketing agency), and partner in Community Broadcasters (the radio station group in upstate New York)," Peggy Rose, a spokesperson for Boch Enterprises told the journal. "Together they bring the financial resources and decades of experience in media and marketing necessary to make this purchase viable.” The Times Co. currently owns The Boston Globe and has been looking for buyers since 2009. High School artists are recognized for their talent in photography, drawing, ceramics, paint and more.
Martha's Vineyard Regional High School art students brought home a record number of awards from the prestigious Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards this month. 38 of the 67 pieces submitted in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphics and architecture received recognition. Gold portfolio awards recipients include: This makes these students eligible for scholarships from art schools across the country. This award is only open to graduating seniors who submit an eight-piece portfolio of artwork (sometimes themed, sometimes showing range).
