Will Obamas Choose Farm Neck for Vineyard Vacation?

There's still no official confirmation, but the Boston Globe and Cape Cod Times are both reviving the widely-accepted rumor that President Barack Obama is bringing his family back to Martha's Vineyard for the first time since 2011 — perhaps to Farm Neck.

Will we be seeing President Barack Obama and his family at the Farm Neck Golf Club and Café this summer? The Obamas are reputed to be considering Farm Neck for their 2013 Martha's Vineyard vacation, the Boston Globe reports online. The Cape Cod Times also picked up the renewed rumor that the Obamas will be back for their fourth Vineyard vacation after skipping the Island last year. On their last sojourn here in 2011, the Obamas rented a rural getaway up-Island. That property, Blue Heron Farm, has since been sold to new owners.  As Martha's Vineyard has learned, White House vacation plans usually aren't confirmed until they're about to begin: In past years, official notification hasn't come until August for the Obamas' Vineyard vacations …

Have You Ever Won an Ag Fair Blue Ribbon?

Everyone who has ever won a blue ribbon remembers it for life

Everyone who has ever entered a piece of art, a pie or a beloved chicken into the Agricultural Fair, and won a blue ribbon for their efforts, has a story to tell. The only blue ribbon I ever won was for an "Island Wild Flower Book" I made with a family friend when I was six-years-old. It remains the only blue ribbon I ever won and I'm proud to say that I still have it and the wild flower book. We want to know about the time you won a blue ribbon. Are you one of those win-at-least-two-every-year kind of winners? Do your lambs take away the coveted blue prize each summer? Or are you a once-in-a-lifetime winner like me? Have you never been able to make your beach plum jam the same as you did the year it got you a blue ribbon? Tell us your …

Let's Go to the Fair!

The Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society celebrates its 150th Livestock Show and Fair.

When I was seven years old I spent a week walking through neighboring fields gathering wild flowers and then pressing them between the pages of dictionaries and encyclopedias. Each pressed flower and fern was then put in a book and labeled carefully, with the help of a family friend who was an expert on Island plant life. Upon finishing, I decided to enter my "Island Wild Flower Book" into the Agricultural Fair. To my delight, and genuine suprise, I was greeted with a blue ribbon the following day. It remains the only blue ribbon I ever won and I'm proud to say that I still have it. My story is one of hundreds of thousands of kids who have toiled and tried year after year to earn that coveted piece of blue cloth printed with silver …
