The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team captured its second consecutive state championship Saturday in Worcester and came home to a cheering Island crowd.
For the second consecutive year, the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team has won the state championship. "Congratulations to the MVRHS Boys Tennis Team for winnng the State Championship today held at Clark University in Worcester! This makes two years in a row!" posted Vineyard Youth Tennis executive director Scott Smith on the MV Patch Facebook page Saturday. The two governors have agreed to a bet over hockey's greatest event, with the loser to volunteer at a food pantry in the winner's state.
Massachusetts and Illinois will be fixated on the Stanley Cup finals over the next few days, and it appears the governors of those states will be as well. Tuesday, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick announced the wager made between himself and Illinois governor Pat Quinn over the outcome of the series between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks. Under the terms of the wager, if the Bruins win, Quinn will volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. If the Blackhawks win, Patrick will volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The Martha's Vineyard Sharks started their home opener Tuesday with a 1 and 1 season. They're still 1 and 1 after rain forced an end to the game after the sixth inning, reports the Martha's Vineyard Times. The Sharks and visitors Brockton Rox were tied 2-2 when the game was called and will resume the contest in a double header June 29, the Times reports. Martha's Vineyard's softball team will take on Holliston in the preliminary round of the MIAA Girls’ Lacrosse South Division 2 playoffs on Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m. in Holliston.
