The department maintains a fleet of boats and offers transportation to ports in Woods Hole, Hyannis, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Boats include the Iyanough, an aluminum catamaran, the Island Home, the Martha’s Vineyard, a passenger/vehicle ferry, the Eagle, which has an upper deck satellite TV lounge and the Sankaty, which has free Internet access.

The company provides ferry service year-round and offers boats for whale watching, stadium trips and special cruises. The ferries have indoor and outdoor seating, a full- service bar, rest rooms, a concession area and flatscreen TVs. In the summer, the company offers ferries from NY/NJ docks on Friday afternoon and returns from Martha's Vineyard on Sunday.
Martha's Vineyard Regional Transit Authority

The Martha's Regional Vineyard Transit Authority provides year round public transit to six towns on the Island;More Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and West Tisbury and in the peak season there are 14 routes in operation across the Island. It offers a variety of fare options including one way passes as well as one day, three day, seven day, 31 day and annual passes. Discounts are given to students 17 and under and seniors 65 and older. Children under six ride free with an adult. Bike racks are available on the outside of the buses and are accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis.  All VTA busses are equipped with luggage racks. Tickets can be purchased on the bus with cash, or at the Steamship Authority terminal, or at the Edgartown Visitor Center. 31 day passes and annual passes can be purchased at the VTA office on A Street or at the Edgartown Visitor Center.
