'Swine & Dine' Wraps Up Week of Butchery on Martha's Vineyard

Your guide to what happens when the weeklong "Porks & Knives" food experience reaches its peak this weekend.

A weeklong Island seminar on pork-butchering, from slaughter to table, winds up this weekend with three public events, according to a Facebook page called Swine & Dine and a website for the series:

  • Pig Out with Local Smoke, Friday, November 8th, 6-8pm: Join us Friday night to kick off our weekend of celebrating pork! Enjoy live country music, local beer, and Pulled Pork Sandwiches slow-smoked all day from our locally-raised pigs. All enjoyed with music and even face painting for the kids! $35.
  • Saturday morning begins with a Farm Tour given by Jan Buhrman of Kitchen Porch, highlighting the major farms on the island and how their commitment has helped the community on the island. Following the tour, guests can take a taste of a classic sandwich. $45.
  • Saturday evening brings a finale with a tasting dinner at the Harbor View in Edgartown. The dinner will also feature guest speakers. Taste delicious foods prepared by chef Nathan Gould of the Harbor View with help from Jan Buhrman and crew. $56.
The weeklong "Porks & Knives" seminar is a production of Buhrman's Kitchen Porch Catering, 14 A Street in Edgartown. Find out more at kitchenporch.com.
