Holiday Sales, Solstice Party, Sunday with Santa

Our pre-Christmas weekend agenda for Martha's Vineyard. Did we miss something? Tell us in the comments.

1. Celebrate the Solstice with Fire, Music and Food: Saturday's Fire-Music-Pot Luck starts at 4:30 p.m. at Sassafras in Aquinnah.

2. Teens are invited to a "tech-free event" to play board games including chess, backgammon, Yahtzee, Scrabble and more. 7 p.m. Saturday, Alex's Place at the Y, free; no video games.

3. If you're looking to finish your holiday shopping with Island-made gifts or presents that benefit worthy causes, stroll down Vineyard Haven's Main Street to the Spring Street intersection to find the Vineyard Holiday Gift Shop and Peacecraft. On Main Street and open year-round, the Night Heron Gallery and Peter Simon Gallery have Island-made artworks, C.B. Stark and Claudia offer Island-made jewelry and Stina Sayre sells her own fashion designs.

4. Up-Island, the Loving Kindness MV Holiday Gift Show is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 129 Indian Hill Road, West Tisbury.

5. Here's another idea: Purchase a gift membership to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, mvmuseum.org, before Dec. 23 and get $10 off at the Family and higher membership levels. Call Jessica, 508-627-4441 x117 to purchase. Museum members get 10 percent off at the Museum shop in Edgartown or online at mvmuseum.org/shop.php.

6. Take your giving to the next level by granting a wish to one of the many Island nonprofits on the MV Donors Collaborative holiday wish list. No donation is too small to make a difference to groups like the FARM Institute, which seeks supplies for a goat named Willow, and Alex's Place at the Y, which humbly wishes for toner cartridges for its printer.

7. Drop your kids off at the Y while you finish that last-minute shopping! Ages 3+. $20/child, $15/siblings. Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the YMCA of MV.

8. At the Second Annual Sunday with Santa at The Black Dog you can have your picture taken with Santa inside the Black Dog Tavern between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., immediately followed by a tree lighting, caroling with the Minnesingers, Ornament decorating for kids, free cookies, hot chocolate and cider and dockside tours of the Tall Ship Alabama (weather permitting). Black Dog Tavern, 21 Beach St. Ext., Vineyard Haven.

9. Martha's Vineyard Aquaculture posts on Facebook: "This Sunday, December 22, dine to donate at Offshore Ale Co! Print these coupons and bring them to Offshore Ale for lunch or dinner. 20% of your food bill will be donated to the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group, Inc! Make a reservation so you don't have to wait! Don't forget to bring your coupons with you and have a great time! Bivalvify!"

10. The Waterside Market Gingerbread House Contest continues: Bring your creation to the market on Main Street, Vineyard Haven through Monday, with winners drawn Christmas Eve. Not into baking and building? You can still cast a vote for your favorite entry in the adult and under-12 divisions — there are some spectacular designs, including one featuring more than a dozen characters from "The Hobbit."
