Thanksgiving Week on Martha's Vineyard: What's Happening?

School's out Wednesday through Sunday and the big game is Saturday on Nantucket; here are some things to do on our own Island this holiday week.

  1. The Island Clergy Interfaith Thanksgiving service takes place at the Trinity Worship Center in the Oak Bluffs campground at 7 p.m. Tuesday, posts the United Methodist Church of Martha's Vineyard on Facebook: "Please bring a non-perishable item for the the Island Food Pantry. The love offering will go to the Island Homeless Initiative Discretionary Fund."
  2. Join the Hannukah Celebration Wednesday at 4:45 p.m. at the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center 130 Center Street, Vineyard Haven. Posted on Patch by Mark Seruya: "Bring your menorah & join us in celebrating the last night of Hannukah. Latkes will be served. Please bring a vegetarian dish to share."
  3. Island public schools are closed Wednesday through Sunday. Saturday, the Vineyarders football team and its fans will take a special direct ferry ride to Nantucket, where we hope they'll capture the Island Cup again to crown the postseason.
  4. The Felix Neck Festival returns Friday with hayrides, face painting, live music by The Flying Elbows, food, wreath making, a weather station and crafts for kids, and baby barn owls you can watch in their nest via the Owl Cam. Rain date Saturday. $4 for Mass Audubon members, $7 non-members, kids under 3 free.
  5. Friday night, posts IMP on Facebook: "Clare, Della, Alley, Eva and Mariah are going to kick some improv butt! Don't miss this special Thanksgiving Show. Friday 11/29 8PM at Alex's Place!"
