Rotary Golf, Creative Economy, Squibnocket Update

Five things to do and know about as the week begins on Martha's Vineyard. Do you have something to add to our list? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Golf at one of the President's favorite courses and have a great time while helping Rotary fund its good works on the Island: The Martha's Vineyard Rotary Club Golf Tournament at the Vineyard Golf Club starts at 9 a.m. Monday. Call for details: Dee 508-627-1161.
  2. Edgartown selectmen meet at 4 p.m. at Town Hall to hear a presentation on the Island's housing needs assessment study and award bids for a pumper truck and the job of renovating Town Hall's exterior.
  3. October begins Tuesday, and with it Arts Martha's Vineyard's second annual Creative Economy Speaker Series. This bring-your-lunch series at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown invites conversations about the Island's creative economy. This week, Lyz Crane of ArtPlace is the featured guest. 11:30 a.m., free admission, coffee and water.
  4. Chilmark selectmen's meetings now begins at a new time, 7 p.m. This Tuesday, the board holds a public hearing on community development strategy, gets an update on Squibnicket Beach and discusses the solar project, among other business: Here's the full agenda.
  5. IMP Comedy Improv After School Classes begin Wednesday at Alex's Place at the Y and it's not too soon to sign up your school-age child. You can do it online at www.imp4kids.com or call 508-939-9368 for more info.
