The Vineyard Sound Return for a 20th Summer

With six new members and four returning, the Island's own a capella team will be performing until the end of August.

Local a capella group, The Vineyard Sound, performed last night at the in Edgartown. The legacy of the all-male group can be traced back to 1992 when a group of guys from Wesleyan University, Connecticut College, and Skidmore College met up and began singing together.

Group member and social media correspondent, Collin Shepard, said, "The group has expanded since its formation in 1992 to include members from Emory University, The College of William and Mary, and Plymouth State University."

New members are picked based on recommendations from current group members. "We select singers that are in all-male a cappella groups at their school," Shepard explained.

The Vineyard Sound will perform five shows a week this summer:

  • Mondays at the in Oak Bluffs at 8pm
  • Tuesdays at the at 8pm
  • Thursdays at the in Edgartown at 8pm
  • Fridays at in Edgartown at 7pm and 9pm

The group also does private shows such as weddings and special events.

When asked to describe the groups' personality in three words Shepard said, "Spontaneous, fun, and quirky."
