Reality TV Show "The Vineyard" Announced

ABC Family wants to do for Martha's Vineyard what MTV did for the Jersey Shore. Are you ready for a "dramatic coming-of-age docu-soap" this summer?

This just in from the ABC Family channel, part of the Disney/ABC Television Network, in a press release announcing recently-approved new programming.

As posted on TV By the Numbers, the announcement reads:

“The Vineyard,” a dramatic coming-of-age docu-soap, follows a handful of 20-somethings in Martha’s Vineyard for the summer.

Tight quarters, new friends and new rivals, all living, working and playing together, make this picturesque playground ripe for mischief and romance.

“The Vineyard” is created and executive-produced by Dave Broome (“Biggest Loser”) and Brian Smith (“Masterchef”). The series is produced by 25/7 Productions.

The day, time, cast and location for the show have yet to be announced.

What do you think of this news? Is this good for the Vineyard? Will you watch the show? Are you a fan of reality TV? Tell us in the comments.

As long as the production doesn't impede traffic...and doesn't at all resemble Jersey Shore...I'm all for it! I'm sure most of the residents and visitors would tune in (whether they admitted it or not) and it could provide some jobs to say nothing of a likely boost to the island economy overall. Lord knows....the island is full of actors!

Yuck!!!! ABC will reap the low-ratings it deserves with this abomination.

I have to suspend judgement until I see how they decide to represent (or misrepresent) the Vineyard. There are pervasive misconceptions about what it is really like to live here, and this show could either set the record straight, or reinforce the stereotypes. I will give it a chance.

okay, fine. be the voice of reason. I will not rant about it but instead work on my portfolio, and maybe drop off a design or two. :-)

Awful. Let's hope since ABC "family" channel will not be focused on irresponsible drinking. Let's hope this place shows to be boring and they cancel the show

This is is a very bad idea .".The moving hand having writ moves on" It will be a massive PR nightmare...and the residents will be left with an indelible imprint mostly negative...

I interviewed the production coordinator for nearly an hour yesterday, for an upcoming article. She told me they want to showcase the best aspects of the Island - more like "The Hills" than "Jersey Shore," she said. They're also hiring locally: http://marthasvineyard.patch.com/articles/hiring-the-vineyard-reality-tv-show-seeks-production-assistants
