New In Town: Porto Pizza in Vineyard Haven

Porto Pizza has only been open for 16 days, but owner, Jiri Pavelka has had years of experience in the pizza business.

"I used to work in some other place making pizza," says Pavelka who has been living and working here for the past 14 years. He and a friend decided to start the own business because, "why not? It just came across our way one day. The location was the best we could find in the last four years."

And a better location Pavelka couldn't ask for. Porto Pizza is in an ideal spot behind the Main St. shopping area, next to Menemsha Blues across the parking lot from the Vineyard Haven Stop & Shop. It is the first dining option you see as you get off the boat in Vineyard Haven.

The menu is simple. Cheese, Pepperoni, Whole Wheat, and Deep Dish. They also sell Del's fresh lemonade.

"Let the pizza stand on its own," Pavelka said.
