Martha's Vineyard Sharks Sweep 2013 Championship

Were you there for Thursday's triumphant game? This is the first time in the Sharks' three seasons with the Futures Collegiate Baseball League that they have taken the championship from the Silver Knights, who were the 2011 and 2012 champs.

The Martha's Vineyard Sharks baseball team swept their postseason series this week to become the 2013 champions of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.

Thursday night at the Shark Tank in Oak Bluffs, the Sharks defeated defending champions the Nashua Silver Knights 6 to 3.

This is the first time in the Sharks' three seasons with the league that they have taken the trophy from the Silver Knights, who were the 2011 and 2012 champs.

For a detailed report on last night's game, please see the Sharks' blog on Martha's Vineyard Patch.

More than 850 fans turned out, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times.

This championship may be particularly sweet for rookie Sharks player Jack Roberts, who was co-captain of the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School basketball team that went all the way to the state semifinals at the Boston Garden before falling to Danvers High in March.

Roberts, the MVRHS valedictorian in June, starts Williams College this fall.
