Islanders Welcome MV Wine & Spirits on Airport Road
While losing its only year-round downtown packie, Edgartown has gained a seven-times-larger liquor store in a more central Island location: Say hello to MV Wine & Spirits.
Downtown Edgartown's only year-round package store quietly closed its doors last month: Town Provisions, formerly located on Mayhew Lane, is no more.
But Edgartown's loss is also Edgartown's gain: Town Provisions owner Brion McGroarty and his son, also named Brion McGroarty, have opened a much larger facility with a new name, ample parking and a location convenient to dry-towners in Vineyard Haven, West Tisbury and further up-Island as well as customers in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs.

"We are about seven and a half times bigger than we were before," said the elder McGroarty as he and his son worked in their new MV Wine and Spirits shop next door to Flatbread Company near the Martha's Vineyard Airport.
The new store has 2,100 square feet of retail space, he added, and will sell beer, wine, spirits, mixers and soft drinks, cheese, crackers and charcuterie.
Thursday afternoon, the new store still had plenty of open space for product that is arriving to fill the shelves.
But McGroarty and his son aren't waiting for everything to be perfect before they start serving customers.
"There's a lot of work to do, but if somebody comes in we'll take care of them," he said.
Until next summer, MV Wine and Spirits is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
In the summer, McGroarty said, the store will stay open until 9 p.m. When neighbor Flatbread reopens for the season, he added, "our hope is this will be a symbiotic relationship: a nice fresh pizza and a bottle of wine or some beer."
