Wednesday is International Walk to School Day

All Island schools will be encouraging students to walk or bike to school tomorrow

All of the Island schools will be participating in International Walk to School Day this year. International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day.

Organized by the Partnership for a Walkable America, Walk to School Day in the USA began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record-breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico – participate every October.

Here on the Island, keep an eye out tomorrow for kids who are walking or biking to and from school. Charter School kids will be dropped off from busses at South Indian Hill Road and the students will walk to school from there. And at the West Tisbury School, they are trying to get as close to an all-school participation as possible this year.
