Vineyard Beats Nantucket in Per-Student Spending, Graduation Rate

Three Island schools have made the all-state rankings published by the Boston Globe.

Three Martha's Vineyard public schools have been ranked among the top 15 in Massachusetts for per-student spending, according to a recent Boston Globe survey using information from the state education department.
Edgartown School, which spends $21,108 per student, was ranked #8 among state middle schools.
Spending $22,381 per student, West Tisbury School came in 15th among elementary schools and seventh among middle schools in the Globe rankings.

Martha's Vineyard Regional High School was ranked #5 among state high schools, spending $24,337 per student. MVRHS also has one of the highest graduation rates in the Globe survey, at 91.7 percent.

By comparison, Nantucket High School was ranked #9 for school resources at $20,854 per student, with an 88.7 percent graduation rate.

It's probably a good idea not to read too much into these numbers, however: The Globe's top high school for per-student spending, Provincetown High ($31,294) closed its doors for good last spring with a graduating class of eight, leaving rising P'town teens to seek their diplomas at Nauset High or private campuses.
