House Hunt: Where Can I Live on the Vineyard?

Your new Patch editor is living in a borrowed house and running out of time. Is there a year-round rental out there somewhere on Martha's Vineyard for a hard-working journalist, a handyman and a very good cat?

I've been back on the Island for less than a week, but I'm already starting to get nervous about finding a place to live when June rolls around.

For now, the boyfriend, cat and I are cozily ensconced in a kerosene-heated summer house, thanks to the kindness of family members.

But come summer, this little cottage is rented and we can't afford another in the neighborhood where I grew up.

Paul and I don't need beach access, a pool, a gourmet kitchen or a place to tie up a boat. We're just looking for a modest home to live in while we search for a house of our own to buy.

If you know of such a place anywhere on the Island, I'm all ears. The boyfriend is a handyman and former licensed contractor, if that helps.

Have you had to look for a year-round rental in this summer paradise? Do you have any tips to share? Please leave a comment if you do. We'll be grateful.
