Wastewater Plant Manager Joe Alosso Let Go By Two Towns

Released from his position in Oak Bluffs last week, Alosso was suspended today in Edgartown

Last Thursday Oak Bluffs fired wastewater plant manager Joe Alosso. Today, Edgartown followed suit and placed Alosso on paid administrative leave from the same position in that town.

Retired Judge John Sullivan released a 147-page report at a special joint meeting of the Edgartown selectmen and wastewater commissioners this morning in Edgartown. Sullivan’s report, “included a withering hour-by-hour account of irregularities at the Edgartown wastewater department,” according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times.

Sullivan was appointed in December by Edgartown selectmen to investigate mismanagement of the wastewater facilities. As a result of his findings, Sullivan recommended that the wastewater commission fire Alosso. The Times reported, “Judge Sullivan also criticized wastewater commissioners for passive management of the department”.

Last Thursday, the Oak Bluffs wastewater commission voted two-to-one to eliminate the job of wastewater plant manager that Alosso held. Commissioner Gail Barmakian told the Times that it was a decision to eliminate the job, not the employee.

The Oak Bluffs plant will operate with three licensed operators currently employed at the plant, effective February 29th.
