Tisbury Voters Consider Connector Road

A Proposition 2.5 override, to pay for a connector road leading west from the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven thoroughfare, is the first question on the Tisbury town meeting warrant.

Updated 10:10 a.m. with corrected meeting location:

Tisbury voters are being asked to decide whether the town should override Prop. 2.5 - the 1981 state law limiting towns to budget increases of 2.5 percent or less year over year — in order to pay for a new road linking the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road and Holmes Hole Road, which connects to State Road west of the town.

The town would borrow $1.3 million to create the new road, which would allow drivers to reach the shopping area on State Road without negotiating the intersection that also handles all the vehicles heading into and out of Vineyard Haven, including Steamship Authority traffic.

The economic advantage to businessmen like Elio Silva, owner of Tisbury Farm Market and Vineyard Grocer on State Road, is evident in a status update on Silva's Tisbury Farm Market & Vineyard Grocer Facebook page this morning.

"Need your Help Urgent

Tisbury Voters, we need your help to vote for the approval of the town sewer hook up for the New Tisbury Farm Market, and for the connector road, the town meeting is tonight at Tisbury School at 7pm, please let anybody you know that votes in Tisbury to come and vote, last year's town meeting only about 200 people showed up."

Tuesday night's annual town meeting is slated to start at 7 p.m. in the Tisbury School gym.
