Obama Vacation Rumor Causes Comment

The Obamas' ears must be burning: Facebook users have plenty to say about the First Family's rumored return to Martha's Vineyard this summer. Read the latest comments and add your own.

Island tongues are wagging as the Boston Herald, Cape Cod Online and Politico are all citing unnamed sources that say President Barack Obama will bring his family back to Martha's Vineyard for vacation late this summer.

"They haven't seen Chappy yet. We'd be happy to give them a ride!" reads a comment from the Chappy Ferry Facebook page.

Other Facebook commenters took opposing views of the Obamas' rumored return to the Island after giving MV a miss last year.

We asked: "What's your reaction to reports the Obama family is coming back to the Vineyard this summer?" Here's what you said:

  • The only problem with them coming is that others who have saved their money for air fare, lodging, food and activities have to be put out while they are there, just isn't right.
  • Stay away!
  • If it provides jobs in this MV economy rather than in Hawaii or where ever else he goes on vacation, then I am all for it.
  • With enough empty hotels and vacation homes, I doubt anyone would be displaced by the Obama entourage, maybe shifted but not shut out. I personally want to see that vacation money flow to Vineyard business. Michele may need a yoga class.
  • I would rather they went somewhere else it just causes commotion on the already crowded Island.
  • Shows they got good taste.
  • That's true but it does make it more crowded. I saw them last time they were there and they really seemed to be having a great time so if they go that's fine.
  • Think they can go anywhere they want what a TRIBUTE to Marthas Vineyard's Beauty.
  • If they really wanted to help the economy....they should come here in the shoulder season....not in the height of the summer.
  • Don't Drone Me, Bro!
  • Drone filibuster.
  • Maybe I'll finally get a glimpse!
  • Hope it's not when I am there! Makes the island too busy!
  • The idea that the Obamas contribute to island crowding, during their visit hasn't really been proved in any of their previous ones. I never saw Barack jumping ahead of me in line at Cronigs, getting a ton of packages weighed at the Post Office, or fighting me for parking at Main Street. They stay out of our way, we are obligated to stay out of theirs. Don't be so grouchy about them wanting to enjoy August like the rest of us. Would you have them walk all the empty storefronts and closed restaurants in OB, VH and EDG during the 'shoulder season' ? I wouldn't even wish that upon Mitt Romney. Well, maybe on second thought,...
  • Stay home Mr. President. The secret services forces local businesses to close whenever you are nearby. Katama airport can't fly their sightseeing tours. Unless you plan to personally compensate local business for losses caused by your security (as the Clintons did and as you have never done) just keep away. The season is too short for you to wreck 2-3 weeks to feed your Jack Kennedy fantasies.
  • Building their own house has been happening since last year!
  • YEAH!!!!!!!
  • Happiness!
  • Shocking they didn't come LAST summer-- too close to the election.
  • Wow ....what a bunch of negative , unwelcoming Americans!
  • I'm happy and proud that our President chose the Vineyard for his family vacation again 9 hours ago via mobile  · Like
  • All I can say is, how lucky can you get?
  • Great!
