More Golf, Fine Dining for Obama on Vineyard Vacation

Day 4 of President Barack Obama's Martha's Vineyard vacation saw him back on the golf course, out to dinner with First Lady Michelle Obama and in between, attending a private event in West Tisbury.

President Barack Obama returned to the Vineyard Golf Club Wednesday for his second day on the Edgartown course this week.

This time, the weather was fair. According to pool reports:

The president's motorcade departed his Chilmark residence at 10:40 a.m. and arrived at the Vineyard Golf Club at 10:55 a.m. President Obama played at the Vineyard Golf Club two days ago. His partners Wednesday were Jim Kim, president of the World Bank; Brian Roberts, chief executive of Comcast and Ron Kirk, former U.S. Trade Representative.

The route from Chilmark took Obama past several cyclists, a small waving crowd at Alley's General Store, the West Tisbury Farmer's Market, and the local swan family at Mill Pond.

The West Tisbury Farmer's Market was founded in the 1930s, put on hiatus during World War II, and re-established in 1974. It is held twice weekly from mid-June to mid-October, on Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grange Hall. Market vendors sell everything from locally grown fruits and vegetables to honey to goat's milk soap. Khen Tran's egg roll booth is also a popular stop for attendees.

The Vineyard Golf Club course is occasionally home to the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School golf team.

At 4:08 p.m., President Obama's motorcade left the Vineyard Golf Club after a nearly five-hour round of golf.

The motorcade drove back to the president's rented house in Chilmark on empty, gloriously sun-dappled roads.

Two teens with smartphones recorded the motorcade as it passed Alley's General Store. The motorcade encountered three cyclists while on South Road
between West Tisbury center and the vacation home, easily passing around them despite the narrow roads.

The president's motorcade left his house again at 5:50 p.m., heading to the home of Brian Roberts, the Comcast CEO who was part of the president's foursome at the Vineyard Golf Club earlier in the day.

The Roberts home in West Tisbury, off Lambert's Cove Road, lies at the end of a very long, jarringly bumpy dirt road that winds past winding stone walls and the occasional shingled, manicured property.

The president and First Lady Michelle Obama had a two-hour stay at the home of Brian and Aileen Roberts  for a private event. More than two dozen cars were parked alongside a large barn, with taxis waiting to convey guests to the home.

At 7:50, the president's motorcade made its way out of the secluded Roberts property, passing through a lush green field with rolls of hay, bathed in a setting sun.

After bumping back through the woods, the motorcade emerged onto pavement and arrived at State Road restaurant at 8:05.

The restaurant, owned by Jackson and Mary Kenworth, is a regular eating spot for the President on his Vineyard stays. It is one of three restaurants in the town that serves beer and wine; West Tisbury was a dry town until May of last year. State Road is well-known for its Thursday burger nights and for its focus on serving local ingredients.

The Kenworths are the former owners of the Sweet Life Café, where the Obamas dined on their first full day on Martha's Vineyard Sunday.

At 11:30 p.m., the president's motorcade left State Road restaurant to return
to the rented house in Chilmark.
