Low Voter Turnout at Chilmark Election

One-hundred and fity-five Chimark voters went to the polls yesterday to cast their votes in the town election. The turnout was “low,” said town clerk Jennifer Christy—just under 18 percent of the town’s 874 registered voters. But that was to be expected: There were no contested races in this year’s elections.

In fact, one contest featured no listed candidates at all. That race, for surveyor of wood, lumber & bark, was won by write-in candidate Keith Emin. Emin received six votes. Nathanial Allen-Posin received three votes; Josh Scott and Joe Tobin each received two. Thirteen others, including one Capt. Hook, received one vote apiece.

Three other write-in candidates also claimed victory. Robert Chisdey was appointed to a five-year term on the finace advisory committee with 18 votes. He will join Marshall Carroll, III, who received 145 votes. Bernie Maidoff received one write-in vote.

Andrew Fischer and Daniel Greenbaum were elected to two of three open five-year seats on the planning board. Fischer received 28 write-in votes; Greenbaum received six. Mitchell Posin, who was listed on the ballot, received 119 votes
