Kristal Narrowly Re-elected Tisbury Selectman

Voters lifted Jeff Kristal to victory, defeated two ballots questions in Tuesday's elections.

Selectmen Jeffrey Kristal narrowly retained his seat in Tisbury’s town election Tuesday, beating challenger Thomas Pachico 461 to 449.

The election marks the latest chapter in the two men’s strained electoral history. In 2008 Kristal ousted then-incumbent Pachico by 14 votes.

Kristal is the owner of the Crocker House Inn. Pachico, who served three terms as a Tisbury selectmen until 2008, is the owner of Pachico Septic Inspections.

Voters were also asked to weigh in on two ballot questions Tuesday that would have increased real estate and property taxes. Both were roundly rejected.

The first question asked voters to approve the assessment of $85,000 to fund collective bargaining and contract settlements. The second question asked voters to approve the assessment of $100,000 for unfunded post-employment benefits for town workers.
