There is a special 12-article town meeting that will happen first, followed by the 63-article town meeting.

The special town meeting includes the following spending requests

  • To replace the kitchen roof at Edgartown School
  • To make repairs to the police station
  • To replace a lifeguard stand at Bend in the Road Beach

The 63-article annual town meeting warrant includes the following:

  • Whether to approve close to $4.9 million for the design, construction, equipping, and additional costs to build new Edgartown Public Library at the former Edgartown elementary school
  • Whether to transfer control of the Capt. Warren House on North Water Street to the selectmen for the purposes of selling the house
  • Whether to spend $272,000 to add Cape Pogue, Poucha Pond, Katama Bay and Oyster Pond to the Massachusetts Estuaries Program study
  • Whether to approve Community Preservation Act funds for a variety of projects
  • Whether to approve purchasing a number of new vehicles for the town as well as purchase new police equipment
  • Whether to amend the zoning bylaws to allow substandard lots to be used for affordable housing
  • Whether to lease a portion of the Chappaquiddick Fire Station as a communications hub to improve Chappy cell phone service
  • Voters will also hear reports concerning ethics code compliance and possible violations of the code by municipal employees
  • Whether voters support a constitutional amendment overturning the Citizens United vs. FEC Supreme Court case decision

The Edgartown annual town budget is $28.3 million operating budget, a 3 per cent increase over last year.

Edgartown’s annual election will take place on Thursday, April 12th.
