Residents of Martha's Vineyard will have a chance to review a proposal by NSTAR to install new, heavier utility poles along major island roadways as part of an ongoing project to improve the island's utility infrastructure, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times.
The Martha's Vineyard Commission voted on Thursday to review NSTAR's installation of the poles, and set a date of Thursday, Aug. 8, for the first public hearing on the matter, according to the report.
The new poles, according to the report, are 10 feet higher and six inches wider than their predecessors. Replacement poles don't need the town's approval, but midspan poles to fill in gaps do, according to the Times. Thus far, Tisbury and Edgartown have not approved new poles, while Oak Bluffs has approved 19.
