Alosso Resigns as Edgartown Wastewater Manager and Oak Bluffs Rescinds Vote to Eliminate Position

While wastewater manager Joe Alosso has agreed to resign from his position in Edgartown, the fate of his position in Oak Bluffs is now the hands of selectmen

Last week, wastewater manager, Joe Alosso, found himself out of two jobs when the Oak Bluffs Wastewater Commission voted to eliminate his position for budgetary reasons and the same commission in Edgartown placed him on administrative leave.

Yesterday, according to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, the Oak Bluffs board rescinded that vote after labor counsel Jack Collins informed the wastewater commission that only the board of selectmen have the authority to fire Alosso.

“The commissioners then voted 2-1 to recommend to selectmen that they eliminate the position of plant manager to save money for the financially beset town department,” reported the Times.

Earlier that same day, over in Edgartown the board accepted an agreement letter from Alosso who has been on paid administrative leave since last week. The Vineyard Gazette reported that the letter “stipulates that Mr. Alosso’s resignation will be effective May 16, and he will go on unpaid leave starting on Friday, Feb. 10.”

Alosso was the subject of what the Gazette called, “a sharply critical, 64-page report detailing a long list of deficiencies in billing practices at the plant.”

The Oak Bluffs board of selectmen is now left to decide what will happen with Alosso and the wastewater commission manager position in that town.
