Two Dead, One Injured in Car Accident in Aquinnah

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a double motor vehicle fatality that took place on private property in Aquinnah this afternoon

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a double motor vehicle fatality on private property at 2 Red Gate Farm in Aquinnah. A third victim suffered minor injuries. The victims, all women, were in a utility vehicle that struck a tree.

Two occupants of a 2000 Land Cruiser died after the utility vehicle drove into a tree at 12:10 p.m. The driver, a 71-year-old West Tisbury woman, and the front seat passenger, a 69-year-old Lyman, N.H., woman, were pronounced deceased at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs. The rear seat passenger, a 68-year-old Minneapolis woman, was treated for minor injuries at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. We are not releasing the victims’ names at this time.

The investigation into what caused the vehicle to strike the tree head on is ongoing. It is being conducted by troopers from the Oak Bluffs Barracks with the assistance of the Cape and Islands State Police Detective Unit, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
