Oak Bluffs Police: 2 Arrested in Separate Break-Ins

One breaking and entering suspect drove across his alleged victim's lawn and into her car Tuesday afternoon; the other was arrested Sunday on suspicion of smashing windows at several homes, Oak Bluffs police posted on Facebook.

The Oak Bluffs Police Department has posted on its Facebook page the summaries of two recent arrests stemming from residents' calls.

The latest occurred in the noon hour Tuesday, according to the police department's post:

On Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at approximately 12:00 PM, The Oak Bluffs Police Department received a call from a resident of Hitching's Circle regarding a breaking & entering that just occurred at a residence.

The caller stated an unidentified male drove across her lawn in a vehicle and then entered her home. The caller stated she didn't know who the male was but believed he was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

After being told several times to leave by the victim, the suspect eventually exited the residence and got back into the vehicle he drove across the lawn. As the suspect attempted to drive out of the yard he crashed his vehicle into the victim's vehicle which was parked, and proceeded to drive from the area.

With the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police and the Tisbury Police, the suspect was located at his residence in Tisbury. He was then transported to the Oak Bluffs Police Station for questioning.

Subsequently, the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Dukes County Jail where he was booked on charges of Breaking & Entering, Defacing Property, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Negligent Operation.

Oak Bluffs police earlier posted a summary of an arrest Sunday afternoon:

On Sunday, November 10, 2013, at approximately 2:25 PM, Oak Bluffs Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Beach Road near the Martha's Vineyard Hospital for a report of a breaking & entering in progress. The caller reported she observed a male smash a window to her home and attempt to get inside.

Responding officers were initially unable to locate the suspect as he fled prior to the officers arriving on scene. A search of the area revealed four other neighboring residences had smashed windows.

After approximately 20 minutes of searching the area, OBPD officers located the suspect walking on Beach Road.

After interviewing the suspect and locating evidence which connected him to the crimes, he was placed under arrest for several charges of breaking & entering and vandalism.

Tisbury Police assisted in the search for the suspect.
